TEACHING

After teaching 1 year at the junior high and high school level, I spent 35½ years teaching at the university level.  As the Head of Winds and Percussion and Area Coordinator at Biola's  Conservatory of Music, my responsibilities included conducting the Symphonic Winds (Wind Ensemble), Brass Ensemble, Brass Quintet, teaching Basic Conducting, Advanced Instrumental Conducting, Brass Methods, Instrumental Literature for Schools, guiding research for Performance and Literature projects for performance majors, and supervising instrumental Music Education Major's Senior Conducting Recitals. Other responsibilities included teaching Music 101 to non-majors, coaching the Woodwind Quintet and the Horn Ensemble, and teaching private trumpet lessons.

My conducting experience also includes conducting approximately 4000 recording session workshops for Disneyland’s Magic Music Days' Excellence in Entertainment Workshops, plus numerous guest conducting appearances for honor band performances, and hundreds of individual clinics for visiting bands and orchestras. If you would like to watch or listen to pieces I have conducted from my time at Biola University, please visit the Media Page.

Conducting Clinic in Jakarta_edited.jpg

1. LESSONS

I have taught trumpet lessons at the Junior High School, High School, and University level with tremendous success. Based on my own personal pedigree of outstanding trumpet teachers, my students are well grounded in the basics of trumpet playing and are encouraged to build on what they have learned in every lesson. I bring 40+ years of experience as a professional trumpet player into my lessons and students are challenged to become the artists they desire to be.

2. CLINICS

I have lead hundreds of clinics for Junior High School, High School and College bands, orchestras, and jazz ensembles. My extensive traveling experience has provided opportunities for workshops in the United States, China, Japan, Australia, and Hong Kong. Using my highly successful "Bob's Concepts", I am able to make immediate progress and leave ensembles sounding better, feeling they can be empowered to make better music long after the clinic is over.

3. ADJUDICATIONS

I have adjudicated for numerous different travel companies including Heritage Music Festivals/Educational Field Studies/Worldstrides, Festivals in the Parks/Festivals Edge, and Forum Festivals. I have adjudicated for organizations such as the California Music Educators Association, All Christian Schools International, Pre-Festival performances for schools, and private school adjudications. My positive, encouraging, and constructive comments have been appreciated by directors and students alike.
